When Gianna was little, she became a Daisy. And I became a troop leader. We bridged together and for the next three years she was a Brownie (and I was the troop leader). The red tape and lack of other parental involvement burnt me out and although I loved the concept of scouting, I became disenchanted with Girl Scouts as an organization. Yesterday, the younger girls were introduced to Girl Scouts at homeschool group. They completed three projects that could technically earn them the PUPPETS, DOLLS, AND PLAYS Try It during group. Shaye asked to borrow the Brownie handbook from the woman who brought it to group and all the way home she talked excitedly about being a Brownie. When we got home, she searched the book for activities she could do right away and ending up "earning" herself the SPACE EXPLORER Try It and planned out four activities that her and Mackenna could do today to earn the SCIENCE WONDERS Try It and three(she combined song and play composing- and created a musical!) more to earn the CREATIVE COMPOSING Try It. I had forgotten how fun, educational, and interesting the hands-on activities are- and the girls are thrilled to "earn a Try It". I think I am going to officially register Shaye as an independent Brownie this Thursday.
